New England Trip

Hi everyone

The Traveling Fools here.  This has been a very hectic trip.  We have been so busy every day that it did not leave
time to write and record our travels.  Now we have time to try to catch you up on our whereabouts.

We spent 3 nights on the road before arriving at Mark's family country home.  Mark & Heidi had already been
there for over a week.  We backed our rig into their yard and parked next to the house.  We used a regular
15 amp connection to power the refrigerator.  Although we had some concern, it worked out great.  The nights
were cool and no need for air conditioning.  In fact, the A/C was not used at night during the entire trip thus far.
The night temps dropped into the 50's and in a couple of occasions, into the upper 40s.

Mark & Heidi took us to their favorite hiking areas and showed us a great time.  We were surprised by the earlier
than usual change of the colors on the leaves.

Here is a hike to Campbell Falls.  A national forest spanning 2 states.  We began driving in Massachusetts to the
Connecticut border.  Began the hike which took us back into Mass to see the falls.  We even encountered the
border marker on the trail as seen here:

On another outing, we had a picnic in Bear Town Forest then hiked around the lake "Benedict Pond"

A beautiful state.  So many things to see and do.  We explored Quechee State Park, and hiked Quechee Gorge,
(the Little Grand Canyon of VT.)

On one of the days, we drove to Burlington, VT.  Home of Bernie Sanders.  A beautiful college town on the
border of Lake Champlain at Burlington Waterfront Park.  It had activities for anyone and everyone.  If there was
an interest, they had it.  Ours this day was to bike on its shores.  A fantastic trail with views of NY state
mountains with a ferry every few minutes shuttling people back and forth to Kent, NY.

The campground in VT was beautiful.  Very quiet, with a small lake.  We walked around it each evening.

This is the trailer that Heidi and Mark rented at this campground for their stay there!

New Hampshire

My favorite New England state due to its geography, topography and colors.  For some reason, the leaves began changing colors more than any other state visited.  They were bright, vibrant and colorful.  A true pleasure to see and
experience.

Our campground was very spacious and in a beautiful setting.  It had a walking trail that wound through the trees
and led to a pond.  Highway noise was ever present though, even during the night.

We visited the Cornish-Windsor Bridge.  A covered bridge from 1866 spanning the Connecticut River and serving
as border for Cornish, NH and Windsor, VT.

On one of the many hikes, we visited Sabbaday Falls in the White Mountains National Forest.

While driving on Route 112, also known as Kancamagus Hwy. from the falls above, we encountered a scenic
overlook with unreal views of the mountains and colorful trees

We also visited Franconia State Park and took tram to the top of Cannon Mountain at 4080 ft.

While in this park, we also hiked another trail, Lincoln Woods Trail. The views next to this river on an abandoned
railroad track from the 1800s was spectacular.  We saw evidence of the former railroad, as we hiked.

Next blog: Maine! (hint: it may include photos of food!)

  4. Hey, that's the longest covered bridge in existence within US borders. (I Googled that.) Not too many of those left in the world. Georgia I believe has maybe two or three left. One is in Cobb County, on Concord Bridge Road.
