Beaver Creek

The tale of two different driving experiences:
The drive to Beaver Creek, was initially very scenic, dry,
sunny, beautiful, and became the “Drive from Hell”. The scenery was outstanding especially around Kluane Lake and Kluane National Forest. After that, all I can remember is potholes, rocks and wavy broken roads.
A 5.5 hr. drive turned into 7:45 hrs. A total of 4+ hours were spent driving
between 5 – 30 mph mostly due to road conditions. Either due to frost heaves caused by Permafrost and or due to
construction and plain gravel/mud road; the driving was excruciatingly painful.
Permafrost damaged road:
Animals seen today were Grizzly bear; a very much meaner
looking bear than his cousins the Black bears.
2 wild horses and a fox. I guess
that due to the constructions noises, animals are staying away from the roads. Plenty of warnings about moose, Caribou and
Elk crossings on the road but we have yet to see any today.
We are 20 miles from the border and looking forward to
getting back into good old USA.
Unfortunately, it is still 320 miles to Fairbanks. Should we do it on one shot???
Sure, one shot, go for it. Fairbanks or Bust!!!!
