Toad River
The next day
after the storm, was a great sunny day. We were delayed in leaving
due to snow and ice on the slide roofs. Attempting to close one
slide with that wet snow and ice that formed overnight, caused the
motor to slip. Working together with the neighbors, we managed to
pull all the resources needed. We had the extendable broom, while
someone else had an expendable 5 ft. ladder. We managed to clean all
the snow and ice from each other’s slide and were on the road by
10am.
We reached Fort
Nelson where we had planned to spend the night before. No signs of
snow storms visible in this town. The farther north and west we
traveled, the more snow signs we found.
The best we
encountered however, was about 30 minutes west of Fort Nelson:
And about another
mile west, we encountered this one as well:
As we drove
westward, the temperatures began to drop and snow flurries were once
again evident. We thought that we were in for another episode as
experienced the day before. These were just passing clouds and
temperatures fluctuated throughout the day.
As we reached the
mountains and went through many passes, the evidence of heavy snow
was present but the roads were clean and driveable.
This drive was
very different but just as beautiful as those of Banff and Jasper as
you can see
We pulled in to
Toad RV Park about 4pm where we had called ahead for reservations.
Having read many reviews, we requested a site by the lake. And boy,
were we treated to spectacular views. Interestingly, we met many of
the same RVers that had stopped during the storm the previous
evening.
Not only were the
mountain passes without cell phone service, but so was this RV Park
and surrounding area.
We enjoyed the
views so much, that we extended our stay for another night. A well
needed rest after those mountains and the lengthy construction drive
on a muddy pothole ridden road. This ride from hell went on for
approximate 3 miles. By the time we pulled into Toad River RV Park,
one would have thought that we had gone 4x4 wheeling with our RV.
Our second day at
this RV Park was outstanding. A place we would love to return to.
Peaceful, beautiful and managed to see the resident moose. We saw
her at 5:00 am across the lake directly from us. She was supposed to
return in the afternoons but she must have known that we were waiting
for her all day, and stayed away. The weather cooperated giving us a
mostly sunny day and warming up to 50 F. Met new people and it was
very enjoyable speaking and trading stories with them. Additionally,
met some of the old neighbors from our storm night at this place
also. It is great to keep encountering some of the same people met
earlier on this adventure.
Boy, what an adventure. Your pics are GREAT. Is Wendy the photographer?
