Before moving on to Denali, we just want to mention one of the several things we experienced while in Fairbanks.  We visited a site of the Alaska Pipe Line.  Interesting engineering feat.

The trip to Denali was one of the shortest trip taken to date.  We traveled in and about the Alaska Mountain Range.  This made it a beautiful ride but no wildlife was seen.  The road was so-so.  You drive long enough to develop a false sense of security and when you least expect it, the “dips” on the road caused by permafrost suddenly pop up in front of you.  Good way to stay awake.

Denali National Park so far appears to be living up to its expectations.  A beautiful park, providing unbelievable scenery by the mountains surrounding it.  Park Road, is 90 miles long but personal vehicles are only allowed into the first 15 miles.  The rest of the park can only be seen in several ways:
1.       Shuttle bus
2.       Tour Bus
3.       Hiking the backcountry

After careful investigation and deliberation we opted for the Shuttle Bus route to the Eielson Visitor Center.  A 66 mile trip into the park.  We can get on or off the shuttle in various places along the route.  We will then hike on one of the many trails around the center and return later in the afternoon.  We need to bring our own food and water to last the day so we will need to use our backpacking gear besides the cameras.  Stay tuned  for Denali II.
