Fairmont Hot Springs

We were shocked last night by seeing an object we had not seen in almost 2 months; the Moon!  Due to Alaska’s summer solstice - the Sun never really goes down and cloudy nights in Canada, we had missed seeing it.  Now, I believe it has been 2 months, but my possibly OCD wife and ex-teacher, believes it has been 6.5 weeks or maybe 7.  I’ll let you guys decide….

Just a few pics from the campground we stayed at last night:

Left this morning under clear skies and appeared to be a great sunny day.  As the day progressed, we seemed to have caught up with the “low” that has been causing all the rains in Prince George and the mid-central British Columbia area.  We had rain the rest of the day as travelled the Trans-Canada Hwy 16 into Icefields Parkway or Hwy 93.  Drove right through the Canadian Rockies and although the rain and clouds covered most of the mountains, we still managed to view them and their beauty under these circumstances.  Including the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies at almost 13,000 ft; Mount Robson.

Picked up Canada Hwy 95 just before Banff and headed south.  This road took us through Kootenay National Park.  Another beautiful windy, challenging road with many 7%, 8% and 8.5% grades.

After having the longest drive day, since our trip began, we reached Fairmont Hot Springs, BC at 3:30 pm, we lost 1 hr. after reaching Mountain Time zone.  Our reservations for the night had to be made at a Resort campground.  Summer time and a weekend in Canada is crazy.  Everyone hits the roads with or without their RVs and fill the campgrounds.  The drive on Hwy 93, passes numerous campgrounds with full, basic services and everything in between and all the parks were full.  Including Whistler Provincial Park.  In spite of the rains, the roads were very busy and not as desolate as those of the north.

It was cloudy when we arrived, but shortly after we set up camp, the sun came out.  We walked over to the Hot Springs pool at our RV park.  It was a much needed relief to soak for 30 minutes after the long drive today.  Weird experience to be in a pool when it is 61 F outside and then began to rain causing steam from the hot water to fill the air.  (Neither one of us felt any arthritis pain after that!)  We went into the slightly warm pool after that to cool down.

Tomorrow we enter back into the USA, Montana en route to Glacier National Park.
