Prince George
Prince George, BC
Our drive today began earlier than most. Thanks to a noisy yapper next to us in the
campground, he woke us up at 6 am. This
dog would not stop barking. I can see
the owners were embarrassed and did not know how to handle the situation. Anyway, we were up and time to hit the road.
The ride on Trans-Canada 16, (AKA Yellowhead Trail) continues
to be great. After the roads we have
seen, this is a blessing. Mostly
cruising at 60 mph and with cruise control.
I found myself getting sleepy several times. Again, not complaining but after previous
experiences, this one was a welcomed one.
The scenery was very country and lots of farms. This must be the bread basket of Canada’s
countryside. Unfortunately, no more
mountains during this day but lots of farm animals and many open fields with
lots of grass being grown.
Amidst the farmland and livestock, we were surprised to see
a mama bear with a tiny cub, on the roadside.
She stood on her hind legs as we passed, looked at the truck coming one
way and us the other, and decided it was not safe to cross!
We arrived at Prince George close to 11:30 am. Went directly to Walmart where a large
shopping was done. We had depleted most
of our goods and were in need of all food types. Fresh fruits and vegetables continue to be
very expensive up here, but more manageable prices than in other northern
areas. Incidentally, a tid-bit for
you: Don’t complain about those plastic
bags when shopping at Walmart. We have
found that most stores here in Canada want to charge .05 cents per bag for your
goods. We find this practice very
annoying. Although those bags rip easily,
at least we are not being charged for them (yet) in the US.
Due to intermittent rain all day and more constant this
afternoon, we are home bound for now.
Tomorrow we have an appointment with Ford. Need to have an annoying message
investigated. Keep getting message “Check
Coolant Additives” every time engine is started. I have checked coolant levels as well as all
others and cannot explain or remove this message. Hopefully the experts can make sense of this
and FIX IT for us.
Friday we continue our trek southeast, into Alberta. Two more campgrounds in Canada and we’ll be
back in the U.S.A.
We will be meeting
with our friends Claude and Bobbi in Montana’s Glacier National Park. We are looking forward to it!
Guess what?! There are many states in the U.S. that charge for shopping bags as a way to encourage folks to bring canvas bags with them. Massachusetts and Connecticut for example. It is one way to force folks to help save the planet. We always bring canvas bags with us when we head up that way each summer.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the drive was an easy one this time.
Your photos are awesome.......Will this trip ruin you for all others?
