Maine II
A note about fall
leaves: Meant to mention in last post that once we drove out of NH, the leaves
had not
changed color here, in Maine. Obviously,
this is due to an abundance of pine trees, but potentially, Maine's geographic
variables. Now that we've been here for almost 9 days,
we are noticing that the leaves are just beginning to
change to their Fall
colors.
What a fantastic
area and great place to have stayed. The
Schoodic Peninsula and specifically Winter Harbor has
been spectacular. The campground "Main Stay Cottages &
RV Park" is a hidden gem! So
peaceful, quiet with
only 10 sites, all with views of the Winter Harbor
Inlet. The owners have placed Adirondack
chairs on the back
of the property close to the water. A fantastic place to sit and enjoy an
afternoon adult beverage listening to the
gentle waves lap the beaches as the
tide goes either in or out of the bay.

The other night, we
decided to take advantage of the opportunity to order fresh lobster, from The
Lobstore. You
just have to call, place
your order, and they cook the lobster for you to pick up! Wow, it was delicious!
Yesterday we biked
into and through the quaint town of Winter Harbor. Found a river edge road that we
followed for
miles enjoying the views and the sounds.
Today, the weather
finally cooperated and allowed us to kayak.
We had already scouted a couple of sites nearby.
Of course one of them was the bay inside
Acadia NP and the other, Jone's Pond.
The latter, is a large lake nearby
and hardly used by anyone. Something about kayaking in "Acadia
National Park" that sounded very inviting.
We proceeded to Frazier Point and
launched our boats. We followed the
"inside passage" an inlet protected from
the wind and open waters of
Winter Harbor Bay and the open ocean.
The waters were very clear and almost
unreal that this was ocean
waters. Visibility was all the way down
as long as light went that far down. We
enjoyed the peacefulness the area provided and kayaked among the gulls, Blue
Herons and Cormorants
that
were feeding. The Cormorants
allowed us to get almost at arm's length before they dove down again to feed
while staying still and allowing them to come up for air next to us. An amazing bird!!!
Tomorrow morning we
begin our trip back home via Indiana. We
need to stop by our RV manufacturer where
repairs to our flooring will be
made. We managed to change this
appointment to coincide with our return trip
from Maine and avoid having to
head out again after having been home for a few weeks. See you all on our next adventure…
Get ready to enjoy some beautiful fall colors in Maine once you pass Ellsworth! The trees were already changing when we drove through there on Tuesday so they should be even further along when you drive through tomorrow. Great photos! hal
ReplyDeletePlease eat enough lobster for me, too! I mean, the scenery is great, but boy could I get used to fresh lobster.
