Bend, OR
This morning at rush
hour, we drove through Boise, ID. Thank
goodness most of the traffic (bumper to bumper) was heading in the opposite
direction. For a short time, we thought
we were driving through Atlanta. It
appears, that this capital city, is larger than we had thought. Glad we were not caught in that mess.
What seems like
"forever", we finally made it into Eastern Oregon.
I don't know if this is just a misconception
on our part, but Oregon does not seem to be what we had preconditioned our
minds to expect. Many of the pictures
previously seen are of thick arboreal areas, very green and forest like. Well, at least the eastern central part of
Oregon is nothing like that. It is very
desert like. Reminds us of Arizona and
Nevada (Las Vegas) type or topography.
Beautiful in its own right, but not those thick arboreal areas
previously seen in pictures of the state.
After one hour
driving within its borders, we found ourselves in nothingness. If it wasn't for cell phone service, I would
have been more concerned than I would have admitted. Nothing out here. Not even birds. Very scarcely , we saw a couple of crows and
one Turkey vulture flying in circles.
Two hours into its borders, we saw one Gray Hawk and one Bald Eagle in
flight. Both beautiful and majestic
birds. Sorry these were not captured to
be shared with you all.
However, we did
capture a picture of a stock yard in OR.
Thank goodness the wind was blowing in the right direction; away from
the road.
Further Westward, we
encountered these beautiful snowcapped mountains. Part of the "Cascade Range"
After just 1pm local
time (Pacific Time), we drove into civilization and Bend, OR. A city of over 81,000 population. Found
our campground still within city limits, and checked in for the
night.
Temperature was in
the high 60s during the entire trip.
Now, as we sit and write this it is 70 degrees. The low is expected to be 37F.
Tomorrow, we hope to
arrive at our final destination. Stay
tuned….
I'm sorry, still laughing at the thought you were in Atlanta part.
