The Dunes

Hi everyone.  We just finished our 3 days tour being on duty and today is our first day off.  We're tired and a bit sore.  The gift shop and tours continue to be very busy.  After all, it is summer time and families are off and on vacation.

Our friends Rich and Dawn whom we met in Santa Anna,  Texas a while back, are here  volunteering for July & August.  They own a Razor Dune buggy and took us out to experience the Dunes after all the "crazies" went home post Dune Fest.  Fun Fact: We discovered through some research, that much of the sand from the Dunes, began accumulating from the Umpqua River, (among others), over 100,000 years ago.

I got to drive at high speeds and climb those sand hills and come down fast.  Using all of my driving skills to avoid crashes and roll overs, I have to admit that it is lots of fun and very exhilarating.  What I still don't understand or agree with is the parking of one's rigs on the sand and risk damage getting towed in/out of the sands.  Here are some of the views from top of higher hills:

Yes, that is us climbing that hill

Wendy got to ride in the Razor as well, but it wasn’t as death defying (!).  She told Rich to give her a more sedate ride.  She still found it exhilarating.

We finally broke down and got a hummingbird feeder.  It is attached to one of our RV windows.  We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds here.  We have just two that are prevalent: The Rufous and the Anna's.  The bird seen here is the Rufous.

Until next time....
