Whitehorse
This morning we managed to break camp and hit the road
before the intermittent clouds of rain began their trek south. This on – off rain lasted all day including
after our arrival at Whitehorse, the capitol city of the Yukon Territories.
Teslin Lake was a beautiful back-drop for the clouds covering the mountain peaks.

This drive like all the preceding ones, was just as
beautiful, but challenging and very frustrating. The numerous construction sites being the
cause of the latter. For some reason
they love to tear up the black top and provide miles and miles of bare
road. They use large water trucks to
spray the ground and keep the dust down but all this does is create a mud
platform. Add the rains, and you have a
recipe for disaster, waste of time, not potholes but sink holes.
Traffic heading in the opposite direction,
especially semis, send flying rocks on to the windshields of the opposing
traffic, causing many, many damaged windshields. Several of the new friends we have already
made have had theirs chipped. So far we
have been spared from this event.
We drove
through two mountain ranges: Simpson and Big Salmon.
We saw our first black bear by 8:00 a.m. Saw our second before lunch! We also saw another fox and a swooping owl.
We toured the SS Klondike. Use hyperlink to learn about the ship.
As well as downtown Whitehorse
And lastly, our secluded campsite
Hi Guys
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your windshield was not broken. I had to replace two of them last year, so they are expensive. Have fun.
