Tok

Left beautiful Valdez this morning.  A place we will surely miss.
Thompson Pass

The drive to Tok (rhymes with poke) was nice but without the snow capped mountains.  Perhaps it was the road conditions that contributed to our perceptions of the road, but we felt that this ride was not among the "stellar" roads we've traveled thus far. What was supposed to be a 5:30 hour drive, turned into a 7 hour drive.  When we pulled into the RV Park we were mentally and physically exhausted.  All this “fun” and our anniversary to boot.  Yes, our 39th year together.  An anniversary to remember for the rest of our lives.
Alaska Pipe Line

This trip has been unreal.  The beauty of Alaska, its mountains, wildlife, rivers and glaciers cannot be described or captured by a photo.  This is something that has to be experienced.  We are preparing ourselves to return to the lower 48, but at least this author is already thinking of when to come back.   Perhaps not with our personal vehicles.  Maybe rentals are the best way to go, not sure yet but come back we must.

We ate out dinner as part of our celebration at a restaurant in Tok: Fast Eddy’s.  Don’t let the name fool you.  This is an honest to goodness excellent quality, selection, and service restaurant.  We had a special meal of halibut and prime rib.  This restaurant could compete with the finest in any city!

The campground we are staying at for the next 4 nights, has a nightly tradition.  They have a pancake toss.  If you get a pancake into a bucket, you win a free breakfast at their café.  We participated, but suffice it to say: we will be having breakfast in our own trailer in the morning!
